The kitchen is one place where storage space never seems to be enough. Here are a few creative ideas to help you free up some counter space, and organize your kitchen better.
- The 3 Tiered Stand
This is a very easy project, and could be used to store anything from spice jars to those measuring spoons that you can’t seem to find whenever you need them.
What You Need
- 3 round cake pans (8, 9 and 10 inches respectively)
- 2 candle sticks
- Silver metallic spray paint
- Glue
Getting Started
Glue the candle sticks to the pans, so that the smallest pan is at the top and the biggest pan is at the bottom. Allow to dry completely. Lastly, apply spray paint and your 3 tiered stand is ready!
Although you can store anything in here, remember that spray paint is not food-safe. If you must put food items on the stand, they should be in food-safe bowls.
- Container Magnets
Isn’t it a great idea if your fridge magnet doubles as a storage container? Talk about saving space and keeping little things, like a pen, handy around the kitchen.
What You Need
- A metal tin (An empty spice container is perfect)
- Magnet
- Strong Glue
Getting Started
Simply glue the magnet to the back of the tin, and place the container on your fridge. It’s that easy!
- The Pegboard Wall Organiser
This is a very functional way of saving up space in your kitchen, and you can always get the materials needed in your local hardware supply store without any hassle.
What You Need
- A 2×4 foot pegboard
- Two 4 foot 1×2 planks
- A variety of pegboard hooks
- Paint tray and roller
- Wood screws and plastic drywall anchors
- Paint
- Tape measure
- Drill
- Pencil
- Level
Getting Started
Measure and mark where the pegboard will be on the wall, and drill in your dry wall anchors. The next step is to put the 1×2 planks in place by drilling your wood screws through the 1×2 and into the dry wall anchors.
Hold the pegboard against the fastened 1x2s, ensuring that it is straight. Along the edges of the board, drill as many wood screws as this will ensure support through the peg hole, into the 1×2 plank. Apply paint over the board, arrange the hooks when the paint dries, and you are good to go.
Switching Things Up
The good thing is that these Do-it-Yourself ideas work just as well for your bathroom! With the 3 tiered stand, you could use small trays of varying sizes instead of the pans. The procedure is still the same, and the stand is perfect for keeping little things like soap and face towels on your bathroom counter top.
With the container magnets, if you glue on suction cups instead of magnets, then you have a container that you can stick on your bathroom tiles! Also, with a couple of pegboard baskets, your wall organiser functions in the bathroom too!
